Sonya ShAlYAGINA
Composer, Music editor
about
During her time at Berklee, Sonya spent time trying to learn as much as she can from the faculty at the screen scoring department. Shifting from being a classical composer to a film composer was something that took her some time to develop from a mental point of view. During that time, she has collaborated with numerous composers and clients she worked as a Music Editor for UNICEF’s Angola Campaign as well as working as a composer on two acclaimed short films that gained international recognition in different film festivals across the world.
Sonya’s journey with film music started when she used to spend time watching old French movies. Something about the music and how it worked so well with the scenery in those movies really inspired her and that was one of the first moments where she started to feel that creating that relationship is what she wanted to do.
Sonya is a Composer for Film and Visual Media as well as a Music Editor. She grew up in a very artistic environment, with both parents being really passionate about arts in all their forms. She started playing the piano at 4 and that’s when her journey with music began.
